RASC Meeting Presentation on the Elecraft design experience - a few compliments.

I thought the presentation at the last RASC meeting was really good and informative.  I learned a few things about the product line I did not know and confirmed a few that I either knew or suspected.  I think the radios are nice pieces of equipment but I also think that they are not an especially good value.  Even the QST review pointed out that one was going to spend well over $4,000 for a properly configured radio, one that I might add that could be essentially duplicated from one of the big three manufacturers for around $1500.  The on-line reviews tend to be quite positive although there are a few disgruntled users but no more than one would expect with any product line.  Can't please everyone. My shack, still in boxes from my move contains equipment from each of the big three although I tend to lean toward Kenwood for my HF gear, but there are a couple of ICOM transceivers in the mix as well.  I tend to be an equal-opportunity consumer of ham gear.  My SWL equipment also reflects a cosmopolitan view with receivers from ICOM, Japan Radio, Drake and others on the bench.  My next receiver will probably be from Ten-Tec, the RX-340, as the WJ and high-end ICOMS tend to be a bit rich for my pocketbook and the Ten-Tec has earned a really great reputation from its current civilian and government users.Anyway, back to the RASC presentation.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  I hope the club makes efforts in the future to continue to attract good speakers on interesting topics.  Thanks to the club officers for such a good meeting.Vince
