Al K7IEY... Silent Key

I'm sadden to announce that we have lost a leader here in the Amateur Radio Community. Al Norton, K7IEY passed on June 15,2010 at 10:30 pm. His sudden down turn in health was due to a very aggressive cancer.
Al was instrumental in providing leadership and guidance to Whatcom County hams and was the spear head for the many years of the MBARC Electronics swap meet and flea market.

Sadened by the news

I was shocked to hear the sad news, but glad that it was posted here. If memory serves me correctly Al's father had a barber shop in Burlington. They lived down by the RR tracks where Al had his station in the garage. He was proficient CW op and traffic handler from when he was only about 2 years a ham in 1961. There was a whole bunch of us teenagers who hung out on 3920 AM and worked quick break in. If you tuned off a few KC (KHz) you could hear the old timers bemoaning the fact that we were sure tarnishing the good reputation of ham radio, because we didn't engage in exchanging monologues I guess. Now we are the old timers. RIP Al from one of the 3920 gang. Roger
